2020 is approaching fast and every organization is taking a closer look at their sales goals for the New Year! I ask a simple question what I speak to sales professionals and sales leaders. “If sales were an Olympic sport, how do you want to medal this year?” Without flinching, everyone shouts out the same answer – “Gold!” No one tries to win the silver or the bronze, or worse yet, to not even earn a medal. But it happens every year.
To earn the gold medal in the sales Olympics, take a close look at your schedule. Is your time dedicated to gold-medal activities, or benchwarmer actions? Have you allocated specific blocks, each day, focused on your Golden Time? If not, you cannot expect to win the gold or any other medal for that matter.
Begin to carve out the uninterrupted time in your schedule for your gold-medal activities: prospecting, contacting, face-to-face presentations, networking, and follow-up. It’s up to you to determine the activities that will help you to prepare for the gold medal. Once established, plug them into your schedule and become unwavering on accomplishing each activity… every day. It is easy to get distracted each day and lose focus of the activities that yield the best results. Possessing the right mindset, for everyone in sales, is critical for success. Fortunately, there are two types of mindsets in the sales world.
Those with a Parked Mindset are often stuck in the parking lot of mediocrity. Those with a Motion Mindset are ready to shift gears and make the necessary adjustment to get their sales engine revving. Identify which one you are:
Parked Mindset
- Status Quo
- 9-5 Mentality
- Closed to New Ideas
- Self-Serving
- Fears Change
- Negative
- Points the Finger
- Ego
Motion Mindset
- Status GROW
- 24/7 Mentality
- Open to New Ideas
- Team-Orientated
- Embraces Enhancements
- Positive
- Takes Responsibility
- No Ego
Make 2020 the Year of MOTION and drive your sales results to new levels.
